Arrest made in connection with death of Avinger man

The Harrison County Sheriff's Office has arrested a man in connection with the death of an Avinger man whose body was found on Herschel McCoy Road on Saturday.

Canton Echols, age 33, was charged with the first-degree murder of Blake Reddock.  Echols, a Harleton resident, was arrest by the sheriff's office on Monday.

The sheriff's office originally responded to a report of a burning vehicle on Saturday before being alerted that a body had been found nearby.  Upon locating Reddock's body, officials said that it clearly indicated homicide.

Sheriff Brandon Fletcher said at a press conference on Monday night that they had received a Facebook message around the same time from Reddock's mother saying that her son had picked up a hitchhiker and given him money.  Officials later came to believe that this message wasn't from Reddock, but had been send via his cellphone.

Reddock was initially identified by his tattoos, and officials say that he had been stabbed several times.  The burning vehicle call was also confirmed as a vehicle belonging to Reddock.

Fletcher said that Echols was captured on surveillance video in the vehicle with Reddock at Instacash Pawn.
