The City of Texarkana, Arkansas, announces that City Attorney George M. Matteson is stepping down as City Attorney in order to focus on his local private law practice.
Matteson is concluding his tenth year of service as City Attorney. He said that “this decision is not made lightly and only after a great deal of consideration, prayer, and discussion with family and law partners.”
In a letter to the Mayor and Board of Directors announcing the decision, Matteson said, “It has been an honor to serve as City Attorney, representing the Board, the City, and the City’s supportive citizens. It has likewise been an honor to work with and get to know the hardworking City employees, each of whom dedicates their time, talents and efforts to the betterment, well-being, and safety of the City and those of us who call it home.”
Matteson will conclude his service on January 31. The will begin the process for selection of a successor City Attorney in coming weeks, along with consideration of any interim as may be necessary as the selection process is underway.
