Department of Corrections seeks to put cell phone jammers in prisons

The Arkansas Department of Corrections is looking to make it more difficult to use contraband cell phones inside prisons.

Solomon Graves, the State Secretary of Corrections, issued a statement on August 9 supporting the Cell Phone Jamming Reform Act, which was introduced to the United States Senate on August 3.

The act seeks to change a federal law that prohibits cell phone jamming in state and federal prisons.  A coalition of senators, including Tom Cotton and John Boozman of Arkansas, have co-sponsored the act.

Companion legislation has been introduced in the House by Representative David Kustoff of Tennessee.
