TAPD: Suspect flees through school campus, retrieved by K-9 unit

The Texarkana, Arkansas, Police Department arrested a man with felony warrants after the suspect fled through a school campus.

51-year-old Damarcus Weekly was initially approached by an officer around 2:17 p.m. yesterday at a residence in the 3600 block of Garland Avenue.  The officer informed Weekly that there was an active felony warrant out for him from Pulaski County.

Weekly fled on foot from the officer, running south on Garland Avenue onto the campus of Kilpatrick Elementary.  Security officers at the school put the campus on lockdown to protect students and prevent the suspect from entering the buildings.

Weekly continued fleeing and began jumping fences and crossing yards on East 24th Street.  He then hid under a shed but was found by a K-9 unit with TAPD.

Weekly refused numerous commands to come out from under the shed, at which time the K-9 unit retrieved him.  The lockdown was lifted at the campus once Weekly was in custody.

Weekly was treated for his dog bite at a local hospital before being transported to jail.
